Fallen feathers white
Nestle in the green
Of grass by rain renewed
Fallen from sure wings
That soar above the cloud
That float atop the grave
Of rippled waters dark
The surface of the lake
The song they make is drowned
By lapping at the shores
Concealed by waves that whisper
Prayers of wanting more
Jeweled dragonflies can hover
On the winds that push my frame
Into the deeper waters
That tempt to drown my name
The footprints in the silt
I leave behind my steps
Erased by waves and motion
Remind me what I’ve left
Leaves turned black with rot
Are battered into ash
To line the shore with darkness
Reminders nothing lasts
As the surface rises
To my neck and past my chin
The whispers of an ending
Beg for something to begin
And once my head is covered
A touch slides past my legs
Reminders that the water
Hides life within its grave
