Two spiders pose
Backside of each web
Guard the entrance
Both door and porch
Stretched silently waiting
As dawn creeps in
To take down their woven walls
And build again
At nightfall
A third smaller
Poised in the corner
Different species
A finer web
To catch what the others
Larger their pray
In lasso holes tied broader
Allow to pass
At dawn-break
Sharp crowing sounds
The silence breaking
Rooster is mute
Air thick and strange
To car songs replacing
Grace makes me cry
Under aurora I drive
And try again
At day’s start
West slanted sun
Tips over high noon
Relieves some heat
Monarchs musing
Pick through steaming gravel
In pair take turns
To delight in their dancing
Allow to fly
At midday
Red cardinal
Cries at my return
Approaches bold
Song insistent
Dives over the doorway
And vanishes
Careful steps down from the car
Butterflies new
Appear again
At day’s end
Black and blue flash
The other black gold
Fly to my eyes
And then away
Breath hitches with wonder
Larger than life
I feel the wind of their wings
Allow a smile
At twilight
The crows return
Peer through my wide eyes
Cocking their heads
While Eagle perched
Seems to dare them below
Dark wings shuffle
Disappear as shadows grow
So long again
At sunset
Ultramarine
Grows dark to the east
Pricked by starlight
And branches black
The skyline resplendent
Hides winged watchers
And the spiders rebuilding
Allowed again
At nightfall
