Alchemic Verse

Transmuting pain to poetry

Canary

Quiet days feel worse than before
Hovering softly by the door
Or window staring out

Simple pleasures that help restore
Rarely do much anymore to
Displace the waves of doubt

A stranger wand’ring her own house
Caged songbird eager to be doused
In sunlight, a new route

She moves as silent as a mouse
A spectre of a broken spouse
What’s left to talk about

Discomfort in waiting might just kill her
Canary in the mine long since distressed
Years deprived of air and falling silent
Awoke frantic to flee this hateful nest
Flee to find love and moment’s rest

She fills the time with distraction
Looks away to hide reactions
Locked in limbo dreaming

Muted in dissatisfaction
Seeing that it’s all transaction
Inside she is screaming

A breath outside the cage past due
Book time away to find a new
Horizon redeeming

Or else silent waiting might just kill her
Canary at the entrance of the mine
Blinded by the years so dark and silent
She fiercely beats back fear to grow a spine
Remembers how to fly to your timeline

Quiet days can feel better soon
When her song and self have the room
Authentic, living light

Thrilling pleasures so in tune
Love of life that makes her swoon
What if all is alright

Beloved flying by the moon
On the winds she’s so attuned
Wings stronger from the fight

The comfort in creating will fulfill her
No canary but a muse in distress
Years deprived of her song filling silence
Awake and flying free to build her nest
Free to find true love manifest
